Working Title: "Studies on imaging of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) in phantoms and tissues using different ultrasound techniques"

The visualization of SPIONs in e.g. tumor tissues during tumor treatment with "Magnetic Drug Targeting" is of immense importance. In magnetic resonance imaging SPIONs are visible, but it is not possible to observe the enrichment live. Ultrasound is a comparatively simple and inexpensive imaging technique and in preliminary work we were able to develop various ultrasound methods in collaboration with the former Chair of Sensor Technology at FAU, with which SPIONs can be made visible. In Mr. Huber's project, these methods are now to be further developed and transferred from qualitative two-dimensional imaging to quantitative three-dimensional imaging.
